10 Most Underrated Limp Bizkit Songs
5. Boiler
By November 2001, the severely over-saturated nu metal scene was losing its shine. For 'Boiler', the fifth single from 'Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavoured Water', the general waning of interest was a rough blow on the charts front.
Despite being the least successful release from the group's third LP, 'Boiler' is a raw, emotional showstealer. It features surprisingly intense and emotional vocals backed aptly by a grimier, slower paced rock sound. The end result is an odd mesh of hip hop and rock ballad that counters much of the raucous mayhem provided by the LP's other singles.
For longtime listeners, this is yet more proof that Fred Durst's love life over the years may have been a nuclear hot mess. The anguish with which he raps and roars about being played, dumped and abandoned is surprisingly sincere. It's a breath of fresh air for those more used to his wild public persona.
Interestingly, the decision to make this track a single came from Limp Bizkit's fans after the song won a poll on their website. Not only did it result in one of the darkest, most emotional releases from Trent Reznor's least favourite band, it also gave us that truly ludicrous music video. Good luck piecing together what that thing was meant to be about...
