10 Most Underrated Punk Albums Ever
8. New Model Army - The Ghost Of Cain
Teetering on the fine line between traditional punk and post punk, New Model Army were one of the first British bands to expand on the core conventions and messages of punk rock. Even though New Model Army are responsible for several great albums over the decades, their crowning achievement came several years after punk’s transition away from mainstream exposure.
New Model Army unveiled their groundbreaking post punk record, ‘The Ghost of Cain’, in 1986, but it sadly made little more than a splash on the grand scheme of British music. In terms of production and structure, this is without question one of the best post punk records ever made. Despite this, it was critically panned at the time and failed to make the top 40 in the UK albums chart.
To this day, ‘The Ghost of Cain’ and New Model Army as a whole are both criminally underrated. Key songs from this album include ‘Lights Go Out’, ‘51st State’ and ‘Poison Street’.
