10 Most Underrated Rock Albums Of The 90s
1. Against the Grain - Bad Religion
When looking at the vast history of punk rock, you sometimes need a reality check when it comes to Bad Religion. Way before the pop punk movement started to take hold and the entire nation started to hop on the punk bandwagon, these guys were already the kings of the underground and even had a few shows opening up for people like the Circle Jerks back in the day. As the late '80s wore on though, they were already in the midst of one of the greatest runs of any punk rock band's career.
Though the actual album artwork might seem like it's destined for the used CD rack in a music store, Against the Grain is one of the greatest hidden gems of the golden age of underground punk, with songs that are a lot more cerebral than what you'd find out of someone like Blink 182. From the moment this record starts, Greg Graffin has a lot to say and has no problem getting it off his chest, with songs like Flat Earth Society and Modern Man pointing out the idiocy that goes on in society these days.
It's also insanely catchy too, with songs like 21st Century Digital Boy having one of the biggest earworms that this band would ever create. This isn't the typical punk rock album that's preaching about destruction. No....you come to headbang, and you end up leaving with a lesson. Life is a little bit off, so try to go against the grain every now and then.
