10 Most Underrated Rock Ballads Of All Time

4. No Expectations - The Rolling Stones

In the grand history of rock and roll, there's no way that the Rolling Stones are going to be known as the most wholesome figures in history. Since their inception in the '60s, it was practically their job to serve as the ultimate bad boys of rock and roll, whom moms and dads were concerned about from day one. In between their dabblings with the devil in certain places, the Stones did have a jaded heart, and it's on display in No Expectations.

Just like most Stones songs though, this isn't the kind of chipper ballad that you'd find out of the Beatles. Since these guys had spent the better part of a decade out on tour, this is the kind of ode to the road that works as a love song at the exact same time. From his tone of voice, you can tell that Mick Jagger asking to be put on a train going far away from here is just another day for him.

There might be a lot of magic on display here, but even Jagger can't bring himself to be happy about it, thinking that his music is just something that will fill the void for the time being before fading away like everything else. Given that these were guys born and raised on the sounds of the blues, this is exactly the kind of downtrodden song that you'd expect. You may have hit it big, but that pain in your heart never goes away, does it?
