10 Most Underrated Rock Bands Of The 90s
6. Garbage
If there was one difference that came with the rise of alternative music at the time, it was the over abundance of great female performers in the world. Although Courtney Love tends to be the poster woman for grrrl rock back in the day, you also had people like Fiona Apple and PJ Harvey making a name for themselves around the exact same time with their own takes on the rock formula. While Courtney may have been the ultimate rock star of the scene, Shirley Manson managed to come in from the punk side of the spectrum.
Though people are quick to call this a sort of vanity project because of the inclusion of production god Butch Vig behind the drum kit, Garbage may be one of the most consistent bands of the late '90s, making full album experiences that were a lot closer to punk rock attitude than anything that pop punk may have been doing at the time.
Out of all the great singles like I'm Only Happy When It Rains, albums like their self titled or Version 2.0 are a good indicator of how adventurous they can be, mixing together electronic soundscapes while still keeping that guitar crunch that made every other song leap out of the speakers. We're a long way from industrial, but you can't deny the amount of attitude here.
