10 Most Underrated Twenty One Pilots Songs

4. Nico And The Niners - Trench (2018)

It may seem odd to include a single on this list, but too many casual fans are unfamiliar with 'Nico and the Niners'. Compared with some of the band's other singles   – like 'Stressed Out', 'Ride', and 'Car Radio'  – this tune doesn't get much recognition.

Thematically, 'Nico and the Niners' is central to the overall concept of Trench. The lyrics describe a city called Dema that's ruled by tyrannical bishops. It's a strange concept, but this fictional location is a metaphor for the personal demons we all have to face up to.

Whilst the song doesn't feature a particularly bombastic chorus, the drum patterns, the ukulele chords, and the vocal melodies create a rich atmosphere that surpasses any of the band's other singles. This unique tone makes 'Nico and the Niners' infinitely replayable.

It's a shame, therefore, that this single isn't more popular. If you're only familiar with the band's biggest hits, do yourself a favour and check this one out.
