2. Never Take It - Scaled And Icy (2021)
Twenty One Pilots have always pushed the boundaries of experimentation, but fans were really taken aback when they heard this song for the first time.
'Never Take It' is the rockiest tune the boys have ever come up with. Thick drum beats echo throughout the verses and the chorus, giving the song a stadium-rock flavour unlike anything else on the album.
And, for the first time in the band's career, there's even a guitar solo on this track. It's not particularly complex, but it doesn't need to be. Joseph grooves through this section with ease, and it's easily one of the best moments on the record.
Lyrically, Joseph talks about the negative side of modern media and the weaponisation of information. Whilst there's nothing particularly original about his take on these themes, the sing-along vocal melody more than makes up for it.
'Never Take It' is the ultimate crowd-pleaser. It catches you off guard and takes you on an unforgettable ride.
