10 Music Artists Who Disappeared From The Limelight
2. Zack de la Rocha
In the world of nu metal, you couldn't find a more venomous voice than Rage Against the Machine. While other bands like Korn and Linkin Park may have received their nu metal stripes by talking about pain and suffering, you couldn't hold a candle to the government takedowns spewing from the back of Zack de la Rocha's throat. It seemed that the band would lead us into the next phase of rock music, but after just a few years, nu metal's militant voice would fall silent.
Dissolving after creative differences, the band sans de la Rocha eventually ended up working with vocalist Chris Cornell in Audioslave, but there was pretty much nothing to be heard from Zack. It almost feels like a missed opportunity for the rapturous voice behind the band's biggest songs to not have a solo catalog to his name, but Zack seems more suited towards political activism than an actual music career.
While Zack attempted to work with everyone from Trent Reznor to El-P, there has been nothing that has stuck around for the length of a full-time project outside of the one-off EP as One Day as a Lion. Though the band has reunited in 2007 (and will again in 2021), Zack de la Rocha remains one of the most elusive characters that the rock world has ever given us.
