10 Music Artists Who Released Their Best Album Second
7. Near Dark - Dance With The Dead
Starting their music journey in the realm of heavy metal, the duo of Justin Pointer and Tony Kim have released some of Synthwave's best music. They're perhaps not as synonymous as with the genre as Kavinsky or as radio-friendly as Electric Youth, but their fusion of powerful percussions and vibey synths makes them a much-loved artist among fans.
Near Dark is a shining example of what they offer. Equally at home in the blazing Miami Beach sun, hurtling down Ocean Drive and also in a creepy haunted house with a Carpenter-esque villain nipping at your heels, Near Dark perfectly captures what the band are all about, and where they so delicately draw inspiration.
Aesthetics are important to the Synthwave presentation, as is expected, and each Dance With The Dead album is accompanied by great art. Unsurprisingly, Near Dark's passes with glaring, neon-ish flying colours as its piercingly bright eyes in a sea of deep red fits the music it presents like a skin-tight, 80's muscle-car-driving glove.
In truth, Dance With The Dead don't have a bad release to their name. Their catalogue is expanding seemingly by the day, yet Near Dark is surely the finest of all.
