10 Music Moments That Shocked The World
7. Woodstock '99

Woodstock was initially created to be an event of music, peace, and love. But when the festival got underway in 1999, the results were anything but peaceful. The bands on the bill for the festival were mainly nu metal bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn.
While the first day seemed to go smoothly, Limp Bizkit's headlining set is heralded as the point where everything went to s**t.
Frontman Fred Durst took their prime spot to get the crowd riled up during their song "Break Stuff." This caused the crowd to turn violent as they proceeded to rip down stage scaffolding, start bonfires, and assault fellow crowd members. It also didn't help that Durst (oblivious to the situation) began to participate in the anarchy by crowd-surfing on the scaffolding plywood.
This is commonly regarded as the death knell for the nu metal genre. What was meant to be a musical celebration turned into a horrific concert experience for every band involved.
While there would be good nu metal created after the festival, any ounce of goodwill that the genre originally offered was snuffed out that night.
