10 Musical Reunions That Were A Disaster
9. Motley Crue
Being anywhere near Motley Crue is like trying to make a bunch of snarling dogs act like civilized people. Throughout their career, these misfits from the Sunset Strip were always out to destroy any town they came to, whether it be with booze, sex, or just general mayhem. However, that same kind of aggression can be directed at themselves as well.
After the massive tour to promote Dr. Feelgood, Motley re-emerged with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Even with their previous effort being their greatest success yet, tensions ended up boiling over when Vince Neil abruptly quit, only to be replaced by John Corabi. As Motley entered into their new form though, it was clear that a version of the Crue without the original guys wasn't going to congeal. Trying to patch up their relationship with Neil, the accompanying album Generation Swine was a critical and musical disaster, given that Neil didn't feel comfortable back in the group yet.
As it stands, most of this record ends up sounding like the Crue trying to chase the trends that were coming out of the alternative and industrial movements all at the same time. Once the dust settled, another piece of the puzzle left when Tommy Lee stormed out after creative clashes with the rest of the group. Even though it might be water under the bridge now, these brotherly fights could still get nasty when they wanted to.
