10 Musicians That Were Kicked Out Of Their Own Band
4. Tony McCarroll - Oasis
When a band is firing on all cylinders, you can really feel the career trajectory rising as they move from one phase to the next. Compared to some of their indie counterparts, Oasis were definitely on their way to legendary status after Definitely Maybe, with songs like Supersonic and Cigarettes and Alcohol setting up the blueprint for what their rise to Britpop dominance would be. Just before making history with What's the Story Morning Glory, the Gallagher Brothers had some very sad news for Tony McCarroll.
Compared to the songs on Definitely Maybe, tracks like Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back In Anger were real works of genius that required a far more rhythmic focus than your average rock drummer. Knowing the job he did on Definitely Maybe, Noel knew that there was no way that Tony would have been able to play the new songs properly, deciding to drop him shortly before recording in favor of Alan White.
This wasn't even a new problem either, given that McCarroll's signature drumming performance on Bring it On Down was the result of him being badgered by Noel and producer Owen Morris after prolonged sessions of trying to get the drums right. Although he may not have been written in Oasis' history for too long, Tony's drumming still embodies the naive brashness of the Britpop idols in the early days.
