10 Musicians Who Died On Stage

4. Bruce Hampton

Bruce Hampton - otherwise known as Col. Bruce Hampton Ret. - was a man who certainly left a legacy because of his music and the sheer number of bands he created. Some of these bands included; The Late Bronze Age, The Codetalkers, The Fiji Mariners and more. He was one hell of a showman and went out to raucous applause.

In a rather poetic demise, Hampton was performing at his own 70th birthday concert. The star-studded event featured appearances from the likes of Peter Buck (R.E.M), Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers), Denny Walley (Frank Zappa) and more. It was an honourable tribute and would end up becoming his swan song.

During the encore of the event, Hampton suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed on the stage. The band, however, continued to play, and it's uncertain to this day whether they'd not noticed his fall or saw it and believed it to be a prank.

The final moments of his life saw him surrounded by friends, fans and music, which is almost the perfect way for a musician to go.
