10 Musicians Who Have Joined Multiple Bands
6. Damon Albarn
Damon Albarn will forever be known as the quirky frontman of the Britpop legends Blur. Throughout the band's run in the 90's, Albarn's lyrics were incredibly inventive as he made different comments on society and human intimacy on albums like Parklife. However, Blur's hiatus left Albarn feeling restless and in need of an outlet for his creative musings.
Developing a friendship with illustrator Jamie Hewlett, the creative team hit upon a new creative venture with Gorillaz, with Damon providing the music for a virtual band to perform. Being a fictitious band gave Albarn the opportunity to experiment with every genre from punk to trip hop to full-on hip hop. This put Albarn in a unique position by having his collaborators come to him under the Gorillaz umbrella rather than hop from one project to another.
The success of Gorillaz turned out so well that it even seemed to eclipse the success of Blur in some ways. As Albarn flexed his creative muscles even further, he collaborated with the British group the Good the Bad and the Queen, where he bounced ideas off members of the Verve as well as the Clash. In an ever-shifting business landscape, Albarn has found a way to gracefully balance all his ideas across every zany project he finds himself in.
