10 Musicians Who Left Major Bands
1. Everyone Not Axl - Guns N Roses
The tale of the Guns N Roses split is so complicated that one might need an actual score card to keep track of everyone's departure. As the band went into recording the Use Your Illusion records, they had already replaced drummer Steven Adler with Matt Sorum. Once the band took to the road, everything went to hell.
With Axl Rose making a habit of not showing up for shows, the band quickly began to get fed up. It only took a couple of weeks before newly-sober Izzy Stradlin quickly abandoned ship. While most of the band waited out the tour, it took its toll on their bodies, with Slash almost dying and Duff McKagan being treated for alcoholism.
As the strenuous sessions for the band's next effort went on at a snail's pace, the rest of the band quickly severed ties with Axl, who still owned the name Guns N Roses. While the non-Rose members had a reunion of sorts with Velvet Revolver, it would be 14 years before fans got a new release from GNR with Chinese Democracy, with Axl hiring all-new members. Even though things may be patched up between Axl, Slash, and Duff these days, the mid-90's were the point when Axl's ego could no longer be tolerated.
