10 Near Perfect Rock Albums Of The 2020s

4. Ultra Mono - IDLES (2020)

If Bristolian band IDLES didn't win you over with their stomping debut, Brutalism, then their follow up, Joy as an Act of Resistance, would have wrestled your miss-givings into submission. Even if brutal punk rock wasn't your thing, the notion of a group of a straight edge hard man, bashing the s**t out of a tories, with chantable anthems, would at the very least amuse you.

The group's third album, however, is when their detractors started rearing their heads. Those who once praised lyrics denouncing toxic masculinity, racism and homophobia, began to poke holes at the same sentiments. It wasn't enough to say these guys had hammered home their point, critics instead considered them offensively insincere.

There's no denying that the group made the political affiliations apparent tenfold on this record, but for all that, it's still a blinder. It was hard and fast from the get go; high octane rock that was equally suitable for festival chants, as it was for working out to. When the days started bleeding into one, this record served as one hell of a motivator during the lockdown.
