10 Non Rock Albums That Rock Music Fans Love
9. Chief - Eric Church
For any self respecting rock and roll fan, the moment you turn country can often be the kiss of death. Rock and roll has always lived and died off of the strength of your attitude, and just throwing on a cowboy hat and singing about drinking beer and your pickup truck isn't exactly going to endear you to the guy who's wearing a Led Zeppelin T-Shirt. All great rock and roll comes out of the heartland though, and Eric Church made an album that even someone like Bruce Springsteen could be proud of.
Operating in the same songwriting machine in Nashville, this is a record that has much more of a story to tell than the likes of Luke Bryan, taking the seedier sides of both country and rock and blending them together under one roof, from the elemental feel of a song like Creepin to turning a Rolling Stones lick into a booze belter on Drink In My Hand. Though there are more than a few callbacks to the golden age of country on this record, you can feel that Eric is drawing more from the rock songbook, down to cramming Springsteen with as many references to the Boss as he possibly can.
There have been countless country ballads that have come and gone on the radio, but when you listen to a song like Homeboy or Like Jesus Does, this isn't just some pin up boy looking to get the attention of the ladies. This is a man who's looking to write a lot of the wrongs in his life, even if it means going down swinging.
