10 Overly Hated Musicians In Rock History
5. Yoko Ono
Whenever a band falls on hard times, there are always those fans looking to place blame. No matter if it was just the natural progression for artists to split apart, more often than not fans look for a certain person or issue to point to that spelt disaster from the very beginning. And if anyone has had to carry that kind of target on their back for years, it's Yoko Ono.
Aside from her more avant garde solo works, Yoko Ono has been cited as the reason why the Beatles broke up, leading John Lennon astray from the rest of the Fabs. Removing it from history though, that argument starts to feel cheap, shallow, and more than a little bit misogynistic in retrospect.
As creative people, Lennon and Paul McCartney were already splitting apart, so to have Yoko thrown into the mix just gave the music world a punching bag instead of a legitimate artist.
While nothing that Yoko has done has ever been on the level of her late husband, she still deserves credit as a true innovator in her field, setting up the harsh sounds of art rock and punk alongside acts like Patti Smith just a few years later.
If your vast knowledge of Yoko begins and ends at the Destroyer of the Beatles, that back catalog is still worth some serious consideration.
