10 Perfect 1970s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

7. The Cars - The Cars

During the mid '70s, the era of power pop was just starting to be born. Along with the massive stadium rock hits coming out of groups like Zeppelin, there was another subset of records that were looking to make songs that were just aggressive takes on the pop songs they loved as kids. And when you have the producer of Queen at your disposal, there's no limit to where your muse will take you.

Using just the bare essentials of rock and roll, The Cars' debut was one of the sleekest sounding productions of the time, almost as if every single instrument was polished to the correct sheen. Even with the unique vocal styles of Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek, these songs were impossible to get out of your head, from the lovestruck fool in Just What I Needed to the heartache of My Best Friend's Girl.

And it would seem that the public widely agreed, considering that almost every one of these songs ended up on the radio at some point. It's like the new wave of a band like the Beatles that we all wanted at some point but never actually got. Even though making a first impression can be a little bit tough, the Cars blew all of their competition away and practically made a greatest hits album on their first try.
