10 Perfect 2010s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
4. B'lieve I'm Goin Down... - Kurt Vile (2015)
Kurt Vile might be cut from the same cloth as his former band mate, Adam Granduciel, but he wears his fabric in a very different way.
Vile and Granduciel share many influences, and due to their long lasting working relationship, will always draw compassions to one another. But, their sounds are very distinct. One exists in a realm of ambient reflection, augmented by swirling synthesisers and duelling guitars. Whereas the other, is rooted in riff driven folk rock, underscoring aimlessly wandering lyrics, that serve as a great insight in Vile's shrewd mind.
Vile's sixth studio album is nothing if not laid back. His guitar riffs are able to imbue a certain amount of momentum into his songs. But, Vile is focused on the journey, as opposed to worrying about getting anywhere fast. What this leaves you with, is a mellow but steady album of soft guitar rock that only engages you further, the deeper you go. Vile has embraced his limited vocal range in a way that serves his musical aesthetic perfectly. By half speaking his lyrics, in a Pennsylvanian drawl, he only adds to the effortlessly cool tone of the record.
