10 Perfect Albums Ruined By One Song

2. Run For Your Life - The Beatles

Before the Beatles, the idea of an album having a flow to it wasn't even that much of a thing. As far as the rock and roll scene was concerned, all you had to do was put a few songs that sounded decent on an album together and fill the rest of the record with singles and covers that worked well. When Rubber Soul came out though, we had songs that spoke to one another from front to...well, almost back.

Right as the sweet sounds of If I Needed Someone fade away, we get one of the most drastic tonal shifts on a Beatles album with Run For Your Life, which even John Lennon said that he absolutely hates. Which makes sense because the song wasn't meant to be a part of the record, having originally just been recorded for the Beatles to warm up in the studio.

Compared to the other songs on the album though, it almost seems contradictory. After the album passes by, these are men writing much more mature love songs, from the mistress who sends him away in a bathtub on Norwegian Wood to the open hearted perfection of In My Life. And now here's a song that says that the singer would rather see his girlfriend dead than to see her with another man. When looking at them back to back, this whole thing practically feels like a backwards evolution chart for love.
