10 Perfect Albums That No One Saw Coming

2. A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

Ever since the days of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park have never exactly been strangers to the glitchy side of rock and roll. In between the chugging riffs of songs like Faint and Somewhere I Belong, there was always that extra layer of electronic soundscapes making their way into the mix, especially when they let Joe Hahn go off on songs like Session or Cure for the Itch. That kind of production was always just another layer, and fans weren't really ready for it to be the main focus on A Thousand Suns.

For many of the nu metal crowd, this is where they started to abandon ship for good, as the band got more and more glitchy and coating the album in a dystopian digital haze. Even though it might have been a lot to take in at first, this might be the most adventurous Linkin Park album ever written, as Mike and Chester trade bars back and forth about what would happen in the aftermath of a nuclear war sweeping across the landscape.

Although you can see the same band that Linkin Park were back in the day, this is where they started to ascend to the level of legends, looking to use their songs to tell stories of people struggling to hold on to their own lives on songs like Waiting for the End. They had originally helped us through out teen angst, and now it was time to shift their focus to the problems that affected the rest of the world.
