10 Perfect Albums That No One Saw Coming

3. McCartney - Paul McCartney

For a brief time in between the Beatles' split, Paul McCartney was the one that everyone had their ears glued to. After he put out his first solo album, he had included a statement that confirmed that the band was done, which ended up adding to fuel to the fire that he was the one that dictated the progress of the Fab Four. Then again, fans were not expecting something this ramshackle from the guy who was known to be the perfectionist of the group.

Worked on almost concurrently with the album Abbey Road, McCartney's first solo album almost reads like a demo than an actual album, having an extremely lofi feel to it and songs that almost amount to fragments than actual songs. While you can hear how songs like Teddy Boy or Junk may have worked on Beatles albums, hearing them in this unproduced kind of aesthetic was fairly jarring for the fans that had gotten onboard to hear the sequel to something like Penny Lane.

As the rock world has spread out in the past few decades, McCartney's first album has been called ahead of its time in some ways, having a lot of charm to it and being a lot closer to the world of indie rock years before the trails for that genre had even been blazed. Maybe I'm Amazed may have given us a look at the Paul that we know and love, but the rest of the album feels like we're getting to see the other side of what makes him tick.
