10 Perfect Alternative Albums That Deserve A Lot More Love

1. Neighborhoods - Blink-182

In hindsight, the reunion of Blink-182 left a pretty sour taste in the mouths of a lot of fans. As much as it was great to see the pop punk brats on good terms again, the production behind Neighborhoods seemed to come together with a pretty big clunk than anything else. Once you listened to the record again though, Blink were on the verge of something a lot more interesting this time around.

Being much more in the vein of the self titled record from 2003, you can hear the band trying their best to go beyond pop punk altogether, with Tom DeLonge bringing in more alternative influences from Angels and Airwaves and Mark Hoppus putting some more straight up punk flair in the mix. Compared to the sugary songs like What's My Age Again, Heart's All Gone is the band growing into their punk boots, with a rhythm that sounded like it could have come off of a punk record back in '77.

While there is a distinct change between styles across the record, it's a miracle that they're able to go over as well as they do, like the electronic sounds coming from a song like Ghost on the Dance Floor or when the glitchy sounds overpower Mark on the back half of the song Fighting the Gravity. Since most of the newer Blink stuff with Matt Skiba seems more in line with what they were doing in the early '00s, it would be interesting to see what a sequel to this version of Blink might have sounded like.
