10 Perfect Britpop Albums Of The '90s

7. I Can Coco - Supergrass

If there was ever a parent genre of Britpop, it would have to have been classic rock. When you listen to bands like Oasis or Blur, a lot of them tend to have more in common with someone like the Kinks or the Beatles than what Nirvana or Beck were doing around the same time. Britpop also had mountains of attitude though, and that swagger lets you unlock the inner punk in you.

Then again, if you were to just listen to Supergrass' song Alright from this record, you would not be well equipped for what you're about to hear. Hailing from Southern England, this is the kind of unapologetic punk rock that seemed to be a modern update of something like the Sex Pistols. When you throw on a track like Caught by the Fuzz, you can practically hear the snarl in the vocals as everyone plays their heart out.

Of all of the Britpop movement albums, this might be the clearest indicator of where rock and roll could go in England in the next few years. I mean, off of this one record alone, you can paint a direct line to a band like the Libertines just a few years later, taking the basics of punk and making some pretty decent rock and roll out of it. You might be able to play rock, but if you don't have that attitude, it's not going to mean a damn thing.
