10 Perfect Compilation Albums In Rock Music History
6. Trainspotting - Soundtrack
As far as '90s films are concerned, Trainspotting is up there with some of the acclaimed classics. Being a deep dive into the life of people on the edge of reality, you get a pretty grim picture of what life in the gutter is like for Ewan McGregor's character, especially when he gets hooked on heroin. While this kind of life is not the healthiest to live by, it does make for a pretty banging soundtrack.
Much like Irvine Welsh's book, each one of these songs seem to give you a little vignette of what happens in the movie, whether that be the early days of punk rock or the more danceable sounds of British pop happening around the same time like Blur and Elastica. While it does include the absence of Oasis because Noel Gallagher thought the premise would be dumb, the rest of the songs play off each other perfectly while also giving you a glimpse into what the life of an addict might look like.
When you listen to something like Lust for Life, you can practically feel your heart start racing as things get more and more out of control, until you're hit with Lou Reed's Perfect Day and end up coming down from an intense heroin bender. Just like the movie, this is the kind of record that makes for one hell of a good time and might also leave a few scars on your psyche in the process.
