10 Perfect Hard Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

8. Vol. III The Subliminal Verses - Slipknot

There's a good chance that Slipknot could have broken up after Iowa and still be one of the biggest metal bands in the world. When you have a debut that good and then manage to top it by going even heavier on your second outing, you've cemented yourself up with the all time greats. That was a turning point for the Knot though. It was time to give the maggots a little something more on Vol. III.

Recorded with the help of Rick Rubin in the legendary Houdini mansion, there's a lot more color on this record than any other Slipknot release. Outside of the massive energy on songs like The Blister Exists, you can hear bits and pieces of hard rock history in there. As much as something like Duality might take advantage of each member, you can catch faint wisps of everything from Nine Inch Nails to Black Sabbath in their delivery.

It doesn't forget the metal enthusiast though, with a song like Pulse of the Maggots being one of the most badass things they have ever put to tape. As opposed to Iowa where you were thrown into a hellscape with no hope for survival, Vol. III is where you start to see the Knot coming into their own as songwriters and achieving their PHD in rock and roll.
