10 Perfect Music Albums That Defined The 2010's
5. I Like it When You Sleep - The 1975
If there's anything that the music world can't get enough of, it's nostalgia. Beyond just the music world, you already saw shows like Stranger Things become the biggest series on streaming at the time, almost like they were trying to pander to the generations that remembered the '80s. Anyone can go for the retro bug though...it takes a true artist to actually transcend it.
After hitting the ground running with their self titled debut album, the 1975 pulled out all of the stops for I Like It When You Sleep, taking influence from everyone from D'Angelo to My Bloody Valentine. Across every song on this album, you can hear Matty Healy dissecting the different parts of teen angst, from the hopeless horniness of something like Love Me! or the fizzling out of a relationship that happens on Change of Heart.
If there's one song that says it all for the record though, it would have to be Paris. Set to a typical '80s style synth tone, this is the band firing on all cylinders, keeping the groove tight with lyrics that talk about going back to the days when we didn't have a care in the world. Though we might never be able to make it back to those days ever again, this one album managed to capture that moment in time better than any of its contemporaries.
