10 Perfect Music Albums That Defined The 2010's
4. Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen
So...a lot of these albums on here don't really settle into the term 'pop music' all that well. And that just stands to reason, since the regular pop acts coming out at the time were more concerned with the singles of their records and padding the rest of the album out with fluff. When you find that one album that's all bangers from front to back though, that's something that demands your respect.
Although most people still know Carly Rae Jepsen as the 'Call Me Maybe girl', Emotion is where she really came into her own as a songwriter and performer. Much like Beyonce had done on Lemonade, this is the kind of record that delves into the idea of romance, from the pure joy of the beginning to becoming strangers by the end of the record. Whereas on Lemonade you felt the pain of everything though, there is still a certain amount of joy on every one of these songs, with Carly finding the bright side in almost every situation she has.
Even with certain '80s retro styles that are thrown in for good measure, a lot of these songs are a lot more carefully composed as well, never just settling onto the basic 4 chord sound for the hell of it. No, Carly Rae Jepsen is a pop star, and she definitely deserves a whole lot more classics based on this record alone.
