10 Perfect Rock Frontmen Of The 90s

2. Eddie Vedder - Pearl Jam

As much as grunge may have been about taking things back to basics, it wasn't exactly kind to the old guard of rock and roll. While you did have people like Kurt Cobain praising bands like the Beatles back in the day, the classic rock of the '70s just felt like old fossils compared to the new sounds of Seattle. Which is strange considering that Eddie Vedder's mannerisms seemed to be pulled right out of the '70s rock playbook.

Before Eddie even opened his mouth, you could always tell that there was a bit of darkness brewing inside of him, which was unleashed every time he sang songs like Jeremy and Black. Though this man had clearly gone through some hard times in his life, he never lost his sense of adventure, especially when it came to cheating death every time he took to the stage.

While not necessarily on the same level as survivalists or anything, it wasn't uncommon to see Eddie climbing the rafters of the stage and even getting up on the scaffolding without any net below him to break his fall. Look no further than the Even Flow video, where he tests that theory with cameras on him and falls into a crowd of screaming fans. As much as this falls on the side of circus act some of the time, it was always music that brought Eddie back from danger every time.
