If you had only looked at the rock charts from the past few years, you would have sworn that the entire scene hadn't budged an inch since the early '00s. Even with some of the more pop leaning rock acts like Walk the Moon, everybody populating the Hot 100 seems more concerned with getting their songs used in car commercials than a great body of work. Sometimes you just need someone to snap us all out of it...and kick us in the teeth if you have to.

While Idles were always a promising act after their thrash about debut Brutalism, the amount of humanity on Joy As An Act of Resistance is unparalleled with anyone else in the rock world. Compared to the punk rock of old, these are the kind of angered fueled songs that actually have a heart. Just a chance listening of songs like Great or Never Fight a Man With a Perm show the joy that these guys have for making music, along with their tongue in cheek sense of humor.

Above all else, this is probably the best encapsulation of how the new generation of rock fans are feeling these days. Life is changing rapidly, but it doesn't have to be all that bad. If we're going to have the strength to carry on, these songs could serve as our weapons of choice.
