10 Perfect Rock Songs On Terrible Albums

7. New York City - John Lennon

Ever since John Lennon's departure from the Beatles, the rock community had been divided on every single one of his solo pursuits. At one moment, you'd have albums like Imagine and Plastic Ono Band, which showed the vulnerability behind the Intellectual Beatle and made him feel a lot more human. When he decided to actually collaborate with his wife Yoko Ono, Some Time In New York City worked better as an idea than actual music.

Though Yoko has also carved out a unique place in music history, her collaborations with her husband have always been hit and miss, and this is no exception. Even when bringing in resident weirdo Frank Zappa on a few cuts, it's no secret why songs with titles like Woman is the ***** of the World didn't make it as a single. In the middle of the political sloganeering though, we actually got an old time rock and roll tune to cleanse the palette.

Finally moving into his new life in Manhattan, New York City is everything you could have asked for from John at this stage in his life, flaunting around the Big Apple with the kind of swagger that he learned from playing Chuck Berry tunes back in the day in Liverpool. Though most of this album is a bit too jarring coming off of Imagine, it's nice to have at least one song that feels like one big party.
