10 Perfect Songs That Were Written Incredibly Fast
5. Nowhere Man - The Beatles
In the moptop era of the Beatle days, John Lennon and Paul McCartney practically wrote songs like it was second nature. Even when they were out on tour shuffling from one room to another, the songwriting duo never phoned it in for a second, writing classics like She Loves You and From Me To You while sitting on hotel beds when traveling the world. It was getting a little bit tougher when they entered their psychedelic phase, but Nowhere Man was where things started to turn a corner.
Because when John first sat down to write a song, he had severe writer's block, trying to find just the right chords or a decent lyric for hours and coming up with nothing every single time. As soon as he decided to give himself a break though, John says that the song came out of him in one gulp, getting the whole thing finished in a few minutes and showing it to the rest of the band during the next few sessions when working on Rubber Soul.
This wasn't just your average Beatles love song though. Being one of the first non-romantic tracks they would commit to tape, Nowhere Man actually might be a bit more autobiographical than even John would want to admit, talking about how he doesn't really have anyone around him to understand what he's going through and always having a slightly different view of the world than his friends. Beatlemania may have been fun while it lasted, but it can also get lonely when you're at the top, and this kind of angst is practically a warm up for the masterpieces John would write like Strawberry Fields Forever.
