10 Popular Musicians You Didn't Know Were From Kansas City

3. Tool's Danny Carey

The founding and still-presiding drummer for Tool, Danny Carey, has been part of the band for close to 30 years. With Tool, Carey has been part of four multi-platinum studio albums; its last two full-length ones both hit the number-one spot on the Billboard 200. Tool has also won three Grammys, while Carey has also collaborated in various facets with the likes of The Melvins, Skinny Puppy, Green Jellö, Carole King, and King Crimson's Adrian Belew.

While born and raised within the state of Kansas, Carey attended college at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He was part of the local KC jazz scene while attending college. He remained local to the area until moving to Portland, Oregon and ultimately Los Angeles, where he would co-found the aforementioned Tool.
