10 Punk Bands You Need To See Before You're Boring

3. Dropkick Murphys

Coming in from the left field here, we’ve got Dropkick Murphys. This Celtic group have mastered a unique combination of folk and punk music to deliver some of the best sticky-floor, dive-bar anthems of a generation. Since 1996 this Boston-Irish outfit have been bringing guitars, fiddles, bagpipes and whisky to their notorious live shows across the world.

With a number of influences from their Scottish and Irish roots to their experiences growing up in Boston’s huge hardcore scene, Dropkick Murphys continue to put out a wide variety of music. This ranges from covers of old folk songs, classic punk tracks and, of course, their own catalogue of floor fillers.

This is a band who always put on a memorable show. From getting all the females in the crowd on stage to sing Kiss Me I’m Sh*tfaced, to adding Fields of Athenry to their set-list every time they play in Glasgow as an ode to the Celtic FC fans in attendance, they always leave their audience with a story to tell.

Catching these guys in either Dublin or Boston would be an unforgettable pilgrimage for any big Dropkick Murphys fan. Bonus point to be added if they manage to do so on St Paddy’s day too.
