10 Punk Bands You Need To See Before You're Boring
2. Anti-Flag
Anti-Flag are currently on what could only be described as a heroic second wind career and touring wise. The activist punk-rock band have been around since 1988, on and off, with their early work being particularly raw and heavy. Whilst they’ve continued reasonably steadily, their popularity dwindled in the late 2000s and they seemed to be winding down.
However, the band dived back into the spotlight with the release of 2015’s monster album, American Spring. This melodic masterpiece breathed new life into Anti-Flag and they have been touring the world consistently since its release. Followed up by the equally powerful American Fall in 2017, these Pittsburgh punks have shown no further sign of slowing down.
Anti-Flag’s message is as important to them as their sound. Their lyrics tackle a range of social issues including war, bigotry, racism, the elite V the 99% and many more. They’re often found performing at activist events and protests worldwide and spend a good amount of time at each show discussing these problems.
So, if you’re looking for intense mosh-pits, a multitude of crowd-surfers, choruses you can scream until your lungs give out and rallying around issues that plague the world today, this band is definitely for you.
