10 Rare Muse Songs You've Probably Never Heard

1. ExoGenesis Symphony - The Resistance

Across their catalog, Muse has always had a knack for incorporating classical elements into their sound. Hell, even songs like Butterflies and Hurricanes put everything on pause to have a beautiful piano interlude from Bellamy. Given their penchant for weird melodic detours, it was only a matter of time before the band's musical ambitions got even bigger.

Though the Resistance marked the first time Muse took on the musical grandeur of a band like Queen, they really pulled out all the stops for the ExoGenesis Symphony. After waiting across many albums to gestate, this really is the culmination of all of Bellamy's musical visions, as he pulls off one of the more impressive arrangements ever to be found in a rock song. As opposed to other acts that add in an orchestra to add color to their songs, this is truly a symphonic track that just happens to have rock instrumentation around it.

It's not exactly subtle either, with this odyssey stretched out over 3 different tracks to create one of the most beautiful sonic buildups of Muse's entire career. Though rock may not seem like the most professional of musical genres, this is proof that the clean and dirty sides of the musical spectrum can work in the right context. For all of those who shut off the Resistance after I Belong to You, you owe it to yourself to get in on what might be Muse's greatest musical accomplishment.
