10 Reasons BROCKHAMPTON Are The Future Of Music
7. They Have Unique Style And Substance
One of the biggest complaints of modern music is how homogeneous it all is, particularly in hip hop. It seems as though every up and coming rapper seems to rap about drugs, money and fashion while wearing nothing but Supreme or Gucci. In amongst all of these rappers, Brockhampton has shone through to modern youth for covering far more important topics.
To many fans, one of the most important verses in the band's discography is Matt Champion's on JUNKY, in which he discusses rape culture and the importance of respecting women, something that very few rappers have talked about in recent years, with one exception being Kanye West who may have taken a page out of Champion's book when discussing fatherhood on Violent Crimes.
Another fan favourite song is MILK, in which many of the group's members discuss their past, with a notable verse being Merlyn's in which he discusses how he didn't feel welcome on the primarily white campus of his university.
The unique topics covered are paired with a unique aesthetic, in which the group have channelled a very retro vibe with a modern twist, making each video a sight to behold.
