8. Jamiroquai And Their 'Gig In The Sky'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSaZQmY5AZY No, this has nothing to do with Pink Floyd, who traveled to the Dark Side of the Moon (artistically speaking) on the fifth track of that album. Instead it addresses English band Jamiroquai who performed upon a private Boeing 757 during February 2007. The concert was organised by mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson as a promotion for the band's then recently-released Greatest Hits CD. The plane took off from Munich at 4pm and the band performed a five song set about halfway through the concert. Since irony was lost on them, the track 'Deeper Underground' wasn't played at this point. You might think since video of this performance is actually available that the event was staged for publicity since all electronic devices need to be switched off for a flight. But the video is proof that special permission was given for audience members to record from their seats and that the airlines are probably lying when they ask you to do this on every commercial flight. Still I wouldn't switch that Game Boy on just yet. Originally 200 fans were given the chance to win a competition and see the band perform live on an airplane, before a specially modified plane was organised with room for a stage, lighting and equipment. After the set the band were presented with an award by Guinness World Records recognizing their achievements. The band broke six records, including the highest and fastest concert, recording and gig in a plane. Unfortunately the altitude record was beaten in 2010 by James Blunt although we can't verify if he was on a plane when this performance occurred since he might have just been 'flying high...' Moving on. And I'm so, so sorry.
