10 Rock Albums That Are Way Too Bloated

6. Humanz - Gorillaz

It had been a long time since Gorillaz had come out with a new project by the time Humanz dropped. Since the Fall had come out only a few months after Plastic Beach set the world on fire, there was a good chance that we wouldn't be getting any new Gorillaz music at all, with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett starting to clash a little bit behind the scenes. This was a new era though, and Humanz is a dance party at the end of the world with every guest you can think of. In fact, maybe a few too many.

While the main appeal of Gorillaz is taking different artists and putting them under one roof, Humanz is the first project where the core identity of the band feels a little bit lost. As much as someone like Del the Funky Homosapien fit so well into the Gorillaz narrative back in the day, there are some guests on here that just don't fit the Gorillaz mood, along with old friends like De La Soul being a little bit lackluster on songs like Momentz.

There are definitely some people who show up ready to work like Vince Staples on Ascension or Grace Jones on Charger, but there was no reason to have Noel Gallagher on here for We Got the Power, even if it's Britpop water under the bridge these days. With so many guests to mention, this almost doesn't feel like a proper Gorillaz project at all. This is more like Damon getting a bunch of his friends together and making some songs just for the hell of it.
