10 Rock Albums That Get Way Too Much Hate
6. Danger Days - My Chemical Romance
There's a good chance that whatever My Chemical Romance released after the Black Parade was going to get a least a little bit of hate. When you've made one of the greatest rock operas of the modern age that managed to define an entire generation of rock fans, it's a big ask for you to do the exact same thing twice. Gerard Way didn't even want to revisit the album either, and Danger Days was a fair shot at something different.
Being a lot more ramshackled than their rock opera years, this post apocalyptic tale of a futuristic biker gang is still a ton of fun, with MCR taking a few cues from the new school of rock and roll. Along with the classic rock worship that they have on some of these songs, you can hear faint wisps of people like the Killers in their delivery, bringing in some glossy synths to some of the tracks.
The tone of the album might have seemed like they were selling out, but this is what happens when you become accessible on your own terms. The entire world may have wanted another piece of dark emo rock, and this was the snide answer back that no one was prepared for. That doesn't mean it's bad, it's just that change was in the air at the time.
