10 Rock Albums That Haven't Aged Well At All
3. Generation Swine - Motley Crue
Most of the smarter hair metal bands knew knew that they needed to change things up once the grunge scene came in. With Seattle now turning into the kings of MTV, the days of hairspray and leather started to look way too shallow for most fans to take seriously anymore. It would make sense that Motley Crue would want to change up their sound, but they dipped their toes into something equally as dated on Generation Swine.
As much as their spell with singer John Corabi made for a few interesting moments on their self titled album, bringing Vince Neil back into the fold for this album was a much more scattered affair, with everyone playing with different effects in the studio and turning Mick Mars' wall of guitars into digitized mush in the process. This wasn't just a one time thing either, as the band took to the stage and got a lot more serious, leaving behind the party animal personas and draping their stages in a much more gothic scene than what they had before.
There's no reason for the band not to experiment like this, but a lot of these songs end up feeling toothless as a result, almost stripping everything dangerous about Motley Crue in the transition. The old Crue may have been in there somewhere, but it's no fun listening to Motley Crue try to sound like Nine Inch Nails.
