10 Rock Albums That Were Ruined By One Song

1. Run For Your Life - The Beatles

By the time the Beatles had reached Rubber Soul, something else was definitely in the air when they were writing. Although this had been around the time that Bob Dylan had introduced the band to the wonders of marijuana, they were also looking to go beyond the traditional songs that they made in their moptop days, having tracks that were much more thoughtful and could stand on their own. If they were looking to have something more mature though, why did they pick a song like Run For Your Life as the closer?

It's not like you can't see why the band would write a song like this. The whole track definitely has an Elvis Presley feel to it, and you can tell that the band was really starting to get into it in the studio. The lyrics are another story though, with John Lennon threatening violence against his girlfriend if he ever catches her with another man. While there have been a lot of these dark rock and roll tunes, it makes zero sense for it to end up on an album like this.

Across this entire project, we got to see the Beatles look at love from all angles, from being jilted on Norwegian Wood to frustrated on You Won't See Me to talking about the love that has the potential to last a lifetime on In My Life, only to fumble the whole thing at the last second with a song like this. This turned out to be the last time that we got a lackluster song from the Beatles for a long time, with Revolver opening things up even more to what could be done in the studio environment. This may have just been a throwaway tune, but the Fab Four were getting ready to turn the entire rock scene on its head.
