10 Rock Artists That Had Hit Albums Over A Decade Apart

7. Alice In Chains - 14 Years

In 2002, the rock world was struck by tragedy.

Layne Staley, lead singer and frontman of grunge band Alice in Chains, died of a drug overdose at the age of 34. He had struggled with addiction issues for many years and had been out of the public eye for some time before his death.

Staley's final studio album with Alice in Chains was their chart-topping 1995 self-titled record, also known as Tripod or The Dog Album due to it featuring a three-legged canine on the front cover.

In 2009, seven years after Staley's death and 14 years after their last release, Alice in Chains released Black Gives Way to Blue.

With lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell sharing vocal duties with new singer William DuVall, the band proved that they had not lost a step in their time away from the spotlight.

Black Gives Way to Blue was astonishing, jam-packed with instant classics that won over fans both old and new. It reached number 5 in the US, reaffirming the band as major players in the rock world.

The album ends with a tribute to Staley, which was a very classy move.
