10 Rock Artists That Tried To Destroy Their Career
9. Gregg Alexander - New Radicals
Not everyone who enters the music business necessarily likes the idea of being famous. Being successful is awfully good and respected by your peers is even better, but the onslaught of fame is much more daunting for anyone to take on right out of the gate. And as soon as Gregg Alexander had his second go around as a pop star with the New Radicals, it was pretty clear that he didn't really want it that much anymore.
After trying his hand at being a traditional rock star, the look that Gregg put on with his trademark fishers cap was just the kind of '90s slacker uniform that made him a star, turning in amazing pop songs like You Get What You Give and Someday We'll Know that felt like an ironic update on the AM pop sound that we got so used to in the '70s. Before they even got done the tour though, Gregg prematurely ended the entire project, saying that he was not really that comfortable with being in the spotlight that often.
It's not like you can't see where he's coming from either, with every performance he gave showing him tucking his hat further below his eyes, almost as if he didn't want anyone to see the kind of personal stories that he put into his songs. That's not to say that he's gone anywhere though, having a hand behind the scenes as a songwriter and making hits for other people like Hanson and writing Santana's The Game of Love which turned into one of his biggest hits. Gregg still seems to have a genuine love for music, but the paparazzi tends to be something he could do without.
