10 Rock Bands That Have Terrible Frontmen
5. The Smiths
There's a certain stripe of rock fan who probably adores the indie pop perfection that the Smiths conjured up on their first few records. Your humble author also belongs to the group as well, with Morrissey's poetry and dejected view on reality working perfectly next to Johnny Marr's impressive guitar work. Unfortunately for all of us, Morrissey also likes to open his mouth on things that he should not be even slightly informed of.
Ever since the days of Strangeways Here We Come, Morrissey has seemed to revel in the idea of being the antihero of indie rock, having just as much disdain for nearly everything in the industry with the exception of himself. Though he may have dialed this up since the Smiths' days, it's not like we couldn't see this coming either, with Meat is Murder being one of the most heavy handed vegetarian anthems to have ever been released.
If anything, Morrissey's tongue has seemed to have gotten worse with age too, considering that he doesn't even allow meat products to be served at his shows and even going to bat for some big name celebrities that were accused of sexual harassment. As much as this feels like some elaborate troll happening time and time again, the Smiths might not need to get back together if we're just going to have to deal with this the whole time.
