10 Rock Bands That Quit At The Top

4. My Chemical Romance

Over time, the public perception of My Chemical Romance has undergone one hell of a transition. While many at the time slammed these pretty emo boys for just being scene kids, the amount of amazing material across every one of their albums has led many critical darlings to bite their tongue as of late. So why did it have to end this way?

After coming off of the Black Parade, Gerard Way had made mention of every album feeling like it takes that much longer to actually produce. Not wanting to repeat the same conceptual theme of their rock opus, their next record Danger Days worked like a charm, launching them into the 2010's on all cylinders with a healthy mix of electronics alongside the heavy guitars. Just when you thought the band could build on this, fans were given a rude awakening just a few years later.

With years of experience under their belt, MCR decided to close up shop, with Gerard Way getting into writing comic books and Ray Toro and Frank Iero taking up side projects. Though there was no real animosity amongst the group, the band had always been candid about their breakup, saying that it was just about being realistic compared to the high bar they had set for themselves. Despite having one hell of a comeback just last year, there's something to respect about not wanting to go back into the studio unless it's for the right reasons.
