10 Rock Bands Who Had Horrible Original Names
4. The Rain - Oasis
Oasis were true saviors of rock and roll in the mid 90's. When everyone was still down and out over the implosion of grunge, these lads from Manchester put spunk back in the genre and made rock and roll sound new and exciting for the next generation. Even if the songs were absolutely stellar, the band's name definitely needed some work.
Way before the Gallagher brothers became involved with the band, guitarist Bonehead Arthurs formed the initial crux of the band under the name The Rain. Though this may have been looked at as a cheeky nod to the Beatles song of the same name, the band fiddled around the clubs before drafting Liam Gallagher. Gallagher wanted to join immediately but insisted on changing the band name because of its drab quality.
As the band started to go through different possible names, Liam kept fixating on the names of the clubs they would play while on tour, with the word "oasis" coming up again and again. Believing it to be some sort of sign, Liam insisted that Oasis be the new moniker of the band going forward, after which his brother Noel joined as well. As the 90's wore on, the band lived up to their name by being a fertile songwriting haven for any fan of rock music.
