10 Rock Bands With 2 Masterpiece Music Albums
5. Rage Against the Machine
Around the same time that grunge was starting to rise to fame, the California rock scene never exactly went anywhere. Although it was clear that hair metal was on its way out the door, bands like Stone Temple Pilots were already getting traction as well, taking the sounds of Pearl Jam and turning it into a much more rootsy version of classic rock songs. In the same clubs where Ratt used to perform though, there was a band looking to make a name for themselves with raw anger alone.
From the first few seconds of Rage Against the Machine's debut, every note being played is the sound of frustration boiling over, taking the sounds of hip hop, heavy metal, and the slightest traces of arena rock and turning it into music. As Zack de la Rocha spoke his mind about political corruption, Tom Morello was right behind him with his guitar chops, taking off the rails sounds and turning him into the impromptu DJ in the band.
1992 was already a tense time, but when we neared closer to election years, Rage came roaring back to life, as the Battle of Los Angeles made us take a good hard look at the problems that we were still facing, from being fed schlock on Guerrilla Radio to the hardships that are happening half a world away on Maria and Voice of the Voiceless. Rage might have made it to the top of the musical world, but that didn't mean they weren't going to speak their mind. If anything, fame just gave them a bigger microphone.
