10 Rock Bands With Amazing Live Shows
1. Queen
I mean, there's really no kind of competition with a list like this. Anyone who even thinks of putting together some of the best live bands and doesn't have Queen at least near the top is probably do for a long stare in the mirror. Then again, for as long as they've been a part of the cultural DNA, what was it about Queen that made them impossible to turn away from back in the day?
Answer: Freddie Mercury. While the rest of the band members were never ones to phone it in either, Freddie managed to put every single ounce of energy into his performances, turning himself into a virtual cartoon character every time he went onto the stage. Which is strange considering his mild mannered demeanor whenever he was off the stage. If you're always that reserved in real life, it's just because you're saving it up for when you really have to unleash Hell.
It's not like Freddie did this without rehearsal either, always playing to the people in the back and having the crowd in the palm of his hand, especially during his call and response with the crowd where he basically acted as a vocal coach for thousands of people every single night. As much as they might be played out, it's easy to have Dave Grohl put it into words: "if you're learning how to control a stadium sized crowd, you're going to have to either study the Pope or Freddie Mercury."
